12th Annual Sydney Snapper Championship Results 2024
Early in the week, the weather forecast for this years' Sydney Snapper Championship was not looking that good but changed every day. Friday morning appeared to be a great day but the forecast was for up to 15k winds in the afternoon and dropping off. Some boats launched from Long Reef, most boats launched from Bayview and Roseville.
On Saturday, the wind was up again all day after the southerly came through at midnight. Some launched at Longy but made wise decisions to come home. The rest of the day was a wipeout.
Sunday morning was probably the better day with winds dropping overnight and more manageable fishing was able to be done.
Competitors were able to launch from Long Reef boat ramp on both Friday and Sunday but the ocean current was a bit hit and miss.
Very few if any fished the Saturday with most fishing effort on Friday arvo and Sunday morning.
This year we had 84 anglers enter the championship with 80 adult and 4 junior entries. 32 anglers caught fish and entered photos of their fish in the competition with a total of 59 Snapper entered in the competition.
Congratulations to all the Division winners, place getters and competitors.
The Open Division was won by Ivan Covic who caught the longest Snapper which measured 87.5cms.
Peter Ryan took out the prize for the three longest fish for a total length of 202.1cm.
The Ladies division was won by Maya Covic with a Snapper of 53.1cm, and the Junior Division was won by Joel McManus with his fish measuring 41.7cm.
The Ugliest Snapper was won by Brett Keeling.
The Warringah Anglers Club would like to thank all the fishing clubs and anglers for participating in what was a very successful event.
We owe a special thanks to the generous sponsors for giving their support to this great cause. The profits from the 2024 Snapper Championship will be donated to Bear Cottage and this year we donated $12,300.00
